8 Perks of Working a Temp Job

Perks of Working a Temp Job

Use a temporary job to your advantage and enhance your career!

According to the American Staffing Association, U.S. staffing companies employed an average of 3.32 million temporary and contract workers per week in the 3rd quarter of 2015. Nationally, 2% of the workforce is classified as temporary workers.

There are many benefits to working with an employment agency and completing temporary assignments. Here are some ways you can make a temp job work for you.

1. You Are In Control

Understandably not having a fixed income may be a huge worry for someone who is struggling to make ends meet. However, once you overcome that fear you can learn to control your career. Temporary jobs give you a lot of flexibility. You can even do multiple jobs at the same time and possibly make more money than if you were just working one position.

2. You Can Relax A Little

Work-related stress is fairly unavoidable, but when you are on a temp assignment it will be easier for you to take more time to spend with your friends and family. This work life balance can greatly reduce stress. Plus having a job is better than no job.

3. Psychological Relief

When you have been unemployed for months and are barely scraping by, a temporary job can really help your psyche. Even if the temp job does not match perfectly with your career plan, it can break the cycle of anxiety and desperateness you may have been feeling.

4. Free Training

It is likely that whatever temporary position you accept will require some sort of training. Either the staffing agency will train you prior to sending you out on assignment or you will receive guidance on site while working.

5. Easy Hire

If you meet the requirements for the temp job you are working, there is a very high possibility that you will be offered a permanent position without having to go through the selection process. In some cases companies will hire their temporary worker without an interview or resume. So, in that sense it is easier to find employment as a temp.

6. Learn New Skills

When you complete a temporary assignment you can add new skills and experience to your resume. You will also learn about new industries and how different companies handle business. Having knowledge and an understanding of how other organizations operate is a valuable trait.

7. Grow Your Network

Gaining exposure at a number of different companies via a staffing agency will undoubtedly help you build your professional network. Working a temporary position can connect you with qualified employees, help you discover new clients, and possibly make a few new friends. These connections can lead you to better opportunities.

8. Let the Agency Do the Dirty Work

One of the best things about partnering with a staffing agency is that you really do not have to do much to get hired. You provide your recruiter with your current background and abilities and they connect you with an appropriate company. Employment agencies have an extensive network of clients, many whom they have been doing business with for years.
