How to Find Your Workplace Motivation

Does it feel like each day drags on with no end in sight? If you’re like many Americans, you’ve probably been feeling less excited over the past year to reach your greatest potential at work. Now, with 2020 firmly behind us, finding ways to stay motivated and keep your energy levels up can help tremendously in increasing your job satisfaction and achieving greater professional success. While this is certainly easier said than done, here are some actionable steps you can take to boost your motivation:

Set smaller, bite-sized goals.

If you frequently feel overwhelmed and stressed about everything you need to get done, you’re likely to become deflated and burn out quickly. Breaking your to-do list into smaller, more attainable goals can give you more mental clarity on what specifically needs to be completed while making you feel more productive in the process as you check things off your list. While your small goals should ultimately lead to larger goals, taking this approach can be a major game-changer in helping you feel more accomplished and empowered to conquer even more.

Stay organized.

Failing to keep yourself organized is a surefire way to lose focus and drive on the job. Making a habit of prioritizing daily and weekly tasks will keep you on track for getting your most important assignments or projects completed on time, especially if you work remotely and deal with distractions at home. If you find yourself struggling to stay organized, there are many project management tools that allow you to schedule blocks of time throughout the day for different work activities. Consider speaking with your manager about how project management software can help to improve your productivity and work efficiency. Chances are your employer will understand your perspective and consider investing in a program that keeps you and others in your workplace more engaged and motivated.

Don’t forget to celebrate small and big wins.

Too often, we get so caught up in getting things done that we forget why we are doing them in the first place. Even if you aren’t completely satisfied with your current job, chances are you’re making strides each day that are propelling your career forward. Spending some time to recognize your accomplishments and milestones (no matter how big or small they are) is important for staying driven and focused on your long-term vision. For instance, once you’ve reached a certain professional goal – such as learning a new skill or earning a higher title – consider treating yourself to a nice dinner, spa treatment, or luxury purchase to celebrate.

Remember, the days may seem long, but the months and years are short. Making some small yet meaningful adjustments to your work routine can make all the difference in keeping you motivated to perform your best and continue growing your career.
